Once you scan the QR code, the app will direct you to the Add Sync Module screen. The owner of the house, or the individual who will be accessing the app most often, should put their number down. Be sure to use a phrase that only you or those who will also have access can guess. Personal information and phone numbers are not recommended.
And for more money-saving tips, check out our full guide to choosing home security cameras. The Blink XT boasts “simple installation” on the packaging, and it does not lie. The camera runs on a pair of AA lithium batteries, and you just need remove the back panel from the 3-by-3-inch square camera enclosure and pop them into the battery compartment. Download the Blink Home Monitor app for Android or iOS and follow the onscreen walkthrough to connect the camera and its slightly smaller sync module to your Wi-Fi network. These are truly wireless cameras so you don’t plug these in.
Blink Home Security vs. Competitors
Once you have added the camera, the onboarding process will be complete by clicking on the Done button on your screen. You can now monitor your home from the faculty of your phone. Blink Home Security offers self-monitoring at a low cost and has an easyDIY installationprocess. However, it doesn’t include alarms orsensors, doesn’t offer professional monitoring, and holds an F rating with the Better Business Bureau for failing to respond to customer complaints.
Arlo cameras are some of the best in the biz, but I’ve found that this feature isn’t quite as important in indoor cameras as outdoor ones. The Blink XT2 system has a full-color 1080p HD camera, infrared HD night vision, and passive infrared PI for motion detection. You can easily zoom in and out of recorded and live video from the Blink app, although the picture quality will decrease if you do so, similar to the camera on your cell phone.
What is the range of the Blink XT2 camera?
It looks, feels, and works just like the former two, which means you’ll have no trouble getting it up and running and putting it through all sorts of tests and simulations. But these days, you might have trouble finding one in stock anywhere. You’re better off taking a look at the latest releases in Blink’s inventory instead.

It’s got a decent app, looks simple, and works as promised. The Sync Module is a small, shallow box that comes with the Blink Indoor and Blink Outdoor cameras. The module receives information from Blink servers through your home Wi-Fi, and sends notifications to our phone. Cameras receive information from the Sync Module, then send images and notifications through your Wi-Fi.
Wired Installation
(Blink has no web portal for managing or viewing cameras.) The software is very simple and easy to understand, but it has little depth and lacks features that other, more-robust systems offer. Not only is the camera free of anything weighing it down, but it takes AA lithium batteries to power it, which is convenient for obvious reasons. No expensive batteries or battery packs are needed to operate the XT. Blink claims all its cameras have a two-year battery life with regular usage.
Two, three, and five-camera systems are also available, each with a single sync module included. The camera’s microphone and audio quality sound is fairly clear, but definitely not top of the line. In live view, you can stream 30 seconds of live video and record if you need to. Being able to record in live mode is a huge upgrade from the original Blink XT camera. The Blink XT home security camera system consists of an indoor camera, a weather-resistant outdoor camera, and a mini indoor/outdoor camera. All record HD video and offer both live views and recording.
With the extended-life batteries included in every Blink camera , you’ll get about two years of battery life with typical use. From what I’ve seen, that’s a whole lot of battery life in one charge. With Blink, you’re promised a hassle-free experience, and you’ll get one. For folks who don’t feel comfortable around security equipment or just don’t have the time to learn and interact with technology, Blink is a consistent leader. Before pivoting into pricing and storage options on Blink, I think it’s worth pointing out that these cameras are not ideal as pet monitors. While they’re pretty sensitive to most types of motion out of the box, in my tests, none of the Blink cameras were triggered by the family dog, as wiggly and rambunctious as he is.

This is a huge plus if you’re not into having unsightly power cords running down the side of your house. Having the ability to set it up and be wire-free just looks nicer and eliminates any concerns about the camera going black during power outages. We found ourselves admiring how tidy the device looked on its little mount above our front door without any cords connected to it.
Not only do they resemble each other somewhat in appearance, the cameras also cost less than much of the competition. You can find much more on Wyze in my hands-on Wyze Cam review. It does take a few seconds for the Blink camera to begin recording triggered motion, and the live video feed has a slight delay. The delay isn’t out of the ordinary for home security systems, but the Blink was a little slow for our liking.

The Blink XT2 only starts recording when it detects motion. ZDNET's editorial team writes on behalf of you, our reader. Clearly, the biggest limitation of Blink home security is that it’s only a self-monitored camera system.
Outdoors, where the daylight isn't as well-controlled, video was acceptable, though the XT had difficulty with backlighting and lost details in the shadows. Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Night vision is not spectacular, but good enough to tell you if it’s your mother or a stranger at the door (unless your mother is a stranger to you. In that case, you’re out of luck).
